Parents turn eco-friendly | The Courier-Mail

PLASTIC wrap and disposable containers might soon be history in schools, as principals reject non-recyclables and parents turn to more eco-friendly alternatives to pack their children’s lunches.

In a growing trend, several schools have taken a stance against non-reusable wraps and require certain meals be served “nude”.

Most Catholic schools have an early morning healthy food break, often called Munch’n’Crunch or Fruit Break, where packaging and processed food is banned.

Nutrition Australia recommends parents seek lunchboxes that will keep foods separate (to avoid cross-contamination) and maintain a constant, cool temperature. They must be easy to clean to avoid a build-up of bacteria.

Haggusandstookles.com.au online retailer Donna Fingland said her research found most families replaced lunchboxes at least once a year. “Lunchboxes have to be able to stand up to kids’ wear and tear,” Ms Fingland said.

“The ability to keep food cool is important, and it has to be large enough without being too bulky. They have to be able to slide easily into a school bag, and for little fingers to open and close them.”

The TRIG consists of a sprint from the Hat Head Bowling Club to the boat ramp, a swim across the creek and then a hard slog up to the trigonometric marker on top of Hat Head and then back down … as seen in the newspaper article, he wore his Lime green Chiller2Go throughout the race.
