It’s surprisingly easy to become dehydrated if you don’t drink enough water. Once dehydration has set in, the body slowly begins to shut down, eventually causing problems. Fortunately, your body will tell you that you’re dehydrated by displaying one or more of the following warning symptoms.
1. DRY MOUTH
A dry mouth is an early sign of dehydration that typically also includes dry or cracked lips.
This sounds pretty obvious, but when you’re dehydrated, you become thirsty. It’s just your body’s way of urging you to drink. On average, a woman should drink about eight glasses of water a day and a man should drink about 12 glasses of water a day.
Fatigue is a common sign of dehydration. If you feel tired after exercise or sluggish in the afternoon, it may be because you haven’t had enough to drink.
4. FLUSHED SKIN
If you notice that your skin is flushed, it may be a symptom of dehydration. Of course, remember that you would be naturally flushed if you have just been exercising or been out in the sun.
Many headaches are caused by dehydration, so if you feel a headache coming on, drink some water immediately.
Feeling dizzy can be a symptom of severe dehydration and is usually caused by a lack of blood to the brain. Drink water immediately.
7. LACK OF CONCENTRATION
It’s called “brain drain.” The moment you feel thirsty, some of the brains most important functions go haywire … from the way you feel to the power your mind has to process info and memories.
8. MOOD SWINGS
If you find yourself feeling down in the dumps or snapping for no reason, it may be because you are dehydrated. Try drinking some water to see if it makes you feel better.
When you are nauseous, you usually don’t feel like ingesting anything, but when it comes to dehydration, ingesting fluids is very important. Nausea is also a common warning sign for pregnant women who are dehydrated.
10. SKIN ELASTICITY
Normally, when you pinch your skin, it moves back into place once you let go of it. But if you have poor skin elasticity, your skin will take longer to go back into place. Doctors may do this test when identifying a patient with dehydration.
Constipation is another common symptoms of dehydration. In children and adults, this means going eight or more hours without urinating.
12. DARK URINE COLOUR
The best indicator of dehydration is the color of your urine. Ideally your urine should be clear and if it isn’t, that means that you haven’t had enough water. The color of your urine will actually tell you how much you are lacking. Whether your urine is a dark yellow or a pale yellow, if your urine isn’t clear, it’s time to sip on a water.
